How to find the Qibla direction

Dzikir App uses your location to find the direction of the Kaaba in Makkah, and on a phone it shows a compass to turn toward it.

Quick start

Tap the Qibla tile on Home, or the Qibla tab on the Prayer screen.
Allow location access when asked.
Hold your phone flat, away from metal and magnets.
Turn slowly until the pointer points up. You are now facing the Qibla.

In detail

Reading the compass

The screen shows the Qibla direction as an angle from North, and on a phone the pointer moves as you turn.

When the pointer points straight up, the top of your phone faces the Qibla.
If the pointer jumps around, move your phone in a figure-of-eight to calibrate it.

On the web and desktop

The Qibla is only in the Android and iOS apps: computers and browsers have no compass.

Open Dzikir App on your phone to find the Qibla.
Old links to the Qibla page open the prayer times instead.

Location permission

The Qibla needs your location.

If location is turned off, the screen shows Location Permission Required and an Open Settings button.
Your location is used only to show prayer times and the Qibla, and is not stored on our server.

Tips

Phone cases with magnets can confuse the compass. Take it off if the direction looks wrong.
In a new place, check the Qibla once more before praying.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Qibla direction accurate?

The direction is calculated from your location. On a phone, the accuracy depends on its compass sensor, so calibrate it if the pointer moves strangely.

Why is there no Qibla on my computer?

Computers and browsers have no compass, so the Qibla is only in the Android and iOS apps. Use Dzikir App on your phone.
